Last check...do a:

ls -l /usr/local/bin/barnyard2

if you get:

ls: cannot access /usr/local/sbin/barnyard2: No such file or directory


then look at this section:

Right after Step 9. do:

make
make install

Then do your:

ls -l /usr/local/bin/barnyard2

Again...you should not see the "No such file or directory".  Then try 
/etc/init.d/barnyard2 again.
