[Snort-users] What is this error?

Check your snort.conf, you need to make your RULE_PATH point to where
your rules are
var RULE_PATH /etc/snort/rules or whatever

I got this error when i tried to run this command
snort -A fast -d -i eth0 -c /etc/snort.conf
What is this error?
How can I test my rules to see whether it is working or not?
