[Snort-users] rule+snort updates?

If you aren't very good at writing shell, simply go
through the process of updating the rules by hand,
then record the commands you used to successfully
accomplish it.  Slap those commands into a text file
and make it executable.  This isn't magic; you don't
need to rewrite snort.conf (which that script doesn't
do) or use command substitution or anything vaguely
difficult.
