Hello, Greetings,
It is my pleasure to join this mailing list. May I post my first message?
I got some problems in installing libpcap and Snort.

Problem 1: When install libpcap-0.6 under Solaris 8 in SPARC:
# libpcap-0.4# ./configure
creating cache ./config.cache
checking host system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8
checking target system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8
checking build system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.8
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... yes
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) is a cross-compiler... no
checking whether we are using GNU C... yes
checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes
checking gcc version... 2
checking how to run the C preprocessor... gcc -E
checking for malloc.h... no
checking for sys/ioccom.h... no
checking for sys/sockio.h... no
checking for ANSI ioctl definitions... no
configure: error: see the INSTALL for more info

Problem 2: After install Snort on RH Linux 7.1:
/usr/loca/bin# ./snort
Log directory =
Reading Conf File...
Initializing Network Interface ppp0
using config file /root/.snortrc
Initializing Preprocessors!
Initializing Plug-ins!
Initializating Output Plugins!
Parsing Rules file /root/.snortrc

Initializing rule chains...
ERROR: Unable to open rules file: /root/.snortrc or /root//root/.snortrc
Fatal Error, Quitting..

The first problem seems gcc has something wrong. Actually the gcc 2.93 was
loaded with Solaris 8 on the system.

The second problem has no any clue.

Would you help? Thank you in advance!
