Would you mind to verify the code from CVS? :)
(or http://snort.sourceforge.net/snort-daily.tar.gz), I fixed this problem
on 29th of December. Hope it works now :)

Some logistic error: 'pid' in pid file in daemon_mode was pid of parent
because pid file was created before fork().
