Sourcefire VRT Certified Snort Rules Update
The Sourcefire VRT is aware of vulnerabilities affecting products from
Adobe and ProFTP.
Adobe Security Bulletin APSB10-26:
Adobe Flash player contains a programming error that may allow a remote
attacker to execute code on a vulnerable system. The problem occurs
when the application processes specially crafted ActionScript that
causes a memory corruption to occur.
A rule to detect attacks targeting this vulnerability is included in
this release and is identified with GID 3, SID 18180.
ProFTP Back-doored Source Code:
The ProFTP source code repository was compromised on 2010-11-28 and
code was added to allow for unauthorized remote access to a machine
running that code.
Rules to detect activity pertaining to this back-door are included in
this release and are identified with GID 1, SIDs 18181 and 18182.
Additionally the Sourcefire VRT has added and modified multiple rules
in the blacklist, exploit, scan, specific-threats and web-activex rule
sets to provide coverage for emerging threats from these technologies.
