I am using Snort "Version 1.8-RELEASE (Build 43)" on Linux 2.2.3 and when
I try to use "var HOME_NET $eth1_ADDRESS" it fails with the following
error:

---------
Initializing rule chains...
[!] ERROR ./snort.conf (35): Bad value in variable definition!
Make sure you don't have a "$" in the var name
Fatal Error, Quitting..
---------

"var HOME_NET $eth0_ADDRESS" works though. (Yes, I have an eth1 and it's
up.)

This worked fine for me with Snort 1.7.

Thanks for a great IDS!

Best,
Tony
